Meet the Featured Students and Staff of this Incredible 300+ Person Precision Ensemble

LOS ANGELES, CA – Step into the riveting and demanding world of the Marching Storm, the award-winning band at HBCU Prairie View A&M University, as its members strive to climb in the rankings, balance the demands of life and school, and carry the bold legacy of the university. Stage 13’s docuseries MARCH debuts on Monday, January 24 at 8:00pm ET/PT on The CW. The 8-episode series is executive produced by Jamail Shelton (“Love & Hip Hop”), Emmy winner Cheryl Horner McDonough (“The T Word”), and Stage 13 EPs Shari Scorca and Marcel Fuentes.

Each one-hour episode of MARCH showcases the dedicated and talented band and staff members including musicians, drum majors, dancers, flag team and faculty advisors as they navigate performing in one of the country’s most prestigious HBCU marching bands as well as tackling rigorous academic schedules and maintaining high-grade point averages. The series chronicles their pressure-filled journey to become the top-ranked HBCU band in the land after starting the season at #8, as ranked on ESPN’s The Undefeated.

The docuseries includes electrifying performances at Homecoming and football games against Texas A&M and Jackson State University. While MARCH shares the personal and unique stories of band and staff members from the more than 300-person marching band, it also explores the legacy and culture of Prairie View A&M and highlights how the Marching Storm is an integral part of that rich history.

Shot in the fall of 2021, MARCH presents the students and staff members navigating a plethora of relatable issues – the effects of the pandemic on their lives, long-distance relationships, the current discussion around pronouns, being a student and a parent, getting along with bandmates, and more. The student band members also cope with the common college issues including the first-year students missing their families, sophomores and juniors growing into leadership positions, and seniors contemplating their next moves – all while working toward the shared goal of musical and performance excellence.

With HBCU bands having been celebrated in pop culture – Beyonce’s homage at Coachella, Lil Nas X’s recent VMAs performance, Lizzo and Ciara videos and the hit film “Drumline” — the marching band experience has already left a lasting influence.

“At Stage 13, we are thrilled to partner with The CW to bring audiences the dynamic energy and inspiration of Black college life via the awesome HBCU marching band experience,” said Stage 13 SVP/GM Diana Mogollon. “PVAMU’s Marching Storm is unparalleled, and its members deliver quintessentially high-stakes entertainment at its best, with swagger, camaraderie, and heart throughout the series.”

“It’s been completely incredible to be immersed in this unique world,” added Stage 13 EP Shari Scorca. “I’m impressed by the commitment of the band members, the tough but nurturing band staff, watching 300 people come together for truly magical moments of music and movement coordination, and seeing these kids grow as musicians and people in real time. Producing this show has been an inspiration for our team, it truly comes through on screen.”

The series launches tonight in time for the February observance of Black History Month and HBCU Awareness Month in March. MARCH is an uplifting show that will make audiences smile, laugh, and even weep while bringing the impressive artistry and cultural import of this cornerstone of the Black college experience vividly to life.

Audiences will fall in love with featured band members and staff:

Popular Streaming Show Conscious Living® Airs Fourth Season on PBS Stations Starting in June

06/10/2021 by Susan von Seggern

Husband and Wife Team Bianca and Michael Alexander Travel the Globe to Inspire Viewers to Live More Mindfully While Eating, Shopping, Traveling, and more!

Los Angeles, California – The past year in quarantine has forced many of us to think more consciously about the impact everyday choices have on our health, humanity and the sustainability of the planet. As we emerge cautiously from isolation and venture beyond our insulated pods and cocoons, Conscious Living invites viewers to explore the world more mindfully.

With a successful career as a Hollywood entertainment attorney and Emmy-winning on-camera TV journalist, yogi Bianca Alexander felt called to create more uplifting TV programming. Combined with her husband Michael’s lifelong commitment to the environment and decades of experience as a holistic entrepreneur, vegan chef, and filmmaker, they were both eager to be the change and harness the power of storytelling to help create a more just and sustainable world. Hence, they created the popular Amazon Prime streaming show Conscious Living that will debut its fourth season on PBS stations across the US starting this month. Notable premiere dates include Los Angeles on KVCR on June 7, San Francisco on KQED on June 15, Houston on KUHT on June 12, Washington, DC on WHUT on June 27 and many more.

Distributed by NETA and airing nationally on PBS stations (check local listings) and streaming now on the PBS app, Conscious Living is an exciting lifestyle series that travels the globe on a hunt for what it takes to be a more mindful human – from unique yoga and wellness adventures to mouthwatering vegan street food, sustainable eco-fashion and design, and uplifting spiritual transformation.

With the planet in peril, humanity faces extinction unless we evolve and learn to coexist with Mother Nature, society, and each other. The media we consume is an important part of the mindful revolution. This led Bianca and Michael to conceive Conscious Living on a beach in Bali during their honeymoon in 2004.

During a year-long spiritual sabbatical in the healing vortex of Sedona, Arizona, Michael and Bianca produced the first episodes of Conscious Living. They launched the show to serve as a catalyst for the global awakening toward mindfulness that’s currently sweeping the planet.

“We are part of a new global paradigm shift guided by spirituality, sustainability, and equal justice for all. Conscious Living celebrates choice: the choice to focus our energy on what we wish to create in the world and to take positive steps each day towards that vision. Whether it’s adopting a more holistic plant-based diet, living and traveling sustainably, or raising your vibration through meditation and yoga, in order to heal the planet, we first have to heal ourselves,” notes Bianca. “While how we travel is important – we offset our carbon, drive an electric car, travel via train, subway, bike and foot wherever possible and follow a plant-based diet – we’re far from perfect. The show documents our journey of discovery – celebrating progress, not perfection. As the pandemic has taught us, every choice can make a difference in our collective wellbeing.” added Michael.

Since launching Conscious Living, they’ve produced hundreds of inspiring stories at beautiful destinations, like a Zen hot springs meditation retreat near Big Sur, California and an Ayurvedic yoga detox in the Himalayas. The show also gives viewers front-row seats to ethical cultural events like an upcycled eco-fashion show in Hong Kong and a sacred indigenous temple ceremony in Bali, while helping them hunt for the tastiest vegan street food from Singapore to Washington, D.C.

The premiere episode takes place in Germany where the dynamic duo takes a walk on the mindful side of one of the most eclectic cities in Europe: Berlin. From live music in historic Tiergarten Park just steps from the Brandenburg Gate to incredible back-alley vegan eats, Berlin’s a gift that keeps on giving. Its complex history creates a beautiful tapestry of diverse cultures and experiences, from a pop-up ethical fashion runway show to a tasty plant-based take on Germany’s beloved currywurst. Join this conscious couple as they train, bike, and hike their way through a surprisingly sustainable city.

Future episodes take viewers on a wild adventure that includes: a visit to the wellness paradise of Bali; spiritual seeking in Rishikesh, India, Charlottesville, Virginia, Sedona and New York City; a vegan Mexican fiesta and yoga surfing trip in Maui; glamping in upstate New York; sustainable art exhibits from Japan and Italy to Chicago’s South Side; exploring the spiritually transforming effects of music at a Kirtan festival in Joshua Tree; raw vegan gelato in Rome; discovering the oldest Zen monastery and the art of Feng Shui in California; disappearing diabetes with an African American pastor in DC; escaping to the Himalayas and Umbria, Italy, for a digital detox; discovering a more sustainable future in eco-chic Singapore and finding hope in the midst of despair from a prison in Oregon to the gritty streets of Oakland.

Bianca and Michael are honored to air the next broadcast season of Conscious Living nationally on PBS stations starting this month. Take the journey with Conscious Living as they travel the mindful path to a brighter tomorrow.

atheistsTV_NickPisca2014The Center for Inquiry and the Freedom From Religion Foundation have teamed up to create a unique competition for current and aspiring television writers and directors, the No God But Funny Contest. The contest will award $15,000 to those crafting the winning sitcom script and $25,000 to producers of the winning webisode that takes the “ass” out of atheists.

James Underdown, executive director of the Center for Inquiry Los Angeles notes “of the few atheist characters on TV, virtually all are unlikeable. You know TV would be in big trouble if any other group were so unfavorably portrayed. We happen to know lots of godless folks who are great fun to be around. So we are challenging writers to develop funny, fun and well-adjusted atheist characters.”… Read More

The popular host of NBC’s Early Today Show, MSNBC anchor and founder of the Eric De La Cruz Hope for Hearts Foundation, Veronica De La Cruz, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The television journalist’s 8 pound, 4 ounce bundle of joy was born with dark hair and green eyes and has been named Hartley Eric, after the journalist’s brother who died in 2009.

“Before my brother died, I started an online campaign to raise money for a life-saving heart transplant,” noted De La Cruz. “Thousands of compassionate Twitter followers came out to support the effort and we lovingly referred to them as Eric’s Twitter Army. They all displayed banners on their online avatars that read, ‘<3 Eric,’ which is where my son’s name comes from. If you look at my own social media profile, you will see still see a heart followed by the name Eric. That is what inspired my son’s name.”

De La Cruz and her mother Rose have been over the moon at little Hartley’s arrival, with the new mom noting, “After the pain and devastation of losing Eric almost four years ago, having a healthy baby feels like an incredible miracle. Of course, he couldn’t be any more beautiful. I think I can safely say I have finally met the love of my life.”… Read More

The popular host of NBC’s Early Today Show, MSNBC anchor, and noted founder of the Eric De La Cruz Hope for Hearts Foundation that aids heart transplant patients, Veronica De La Cruz, has announced that she is indeed expecting and that her baby is due in March.

De La Cruz is excited for the arrival of her first child noting, “I am so thrilled to be having this baby, I am extremely family oriented so this is the culmination of a lifelong dream! After the pain and devastation of losing my brother Eric in 2009, it is a miracle to be able to add to our family in this way.” De La Cruz said she looks forward to sharing her personal journey into motherhood, with a new non-profit organization and website which will launch later this year.

Prior to joining MSNBC in 2010, De La Cruz spent five and a half years at CNN Worldwide, serving as an anchor and correspondent. Liberty Hill Foundation’s annual Upton Sinclair Dinner celebrates and honors community leaders at the frontlines of change in Los Angeles and beyond. This year’s recipient of the namesake Upton Sinclair Award is noted Producer-Director-Writer Paris Barclay.

The 2012 fundraising gala takes place on May 9 at the Beverly Hilton. Liberty Hill expects more than 600 friends, supporters, and allies to join in celebration of Paris and their other 2012 honorees. All proceeds will support Liberty Hill’s mission of change, not charity. Through grant funds and training programs, Liberty Hill strengthens leaders and organizations in communities of color. The goal is to change hearts and minds, win concrete change, and advance equality for all.

The Upton Sinclair award is given annually to a person whose life-long crusade for equality and justice inspires us today. This year’s recipient, Paris Barclay, has made a lasting contribution to our nation’s political and social landscape through stage and screen work that demonstrates his commitment not only to artistic excellence but also to human rights. Best known as an Emmy, DGA, Peabody, Humanitas and NAACP award-winning television producer and director, and as a labor leader in his role as the First Vice President of the Directors Guild of America, Paris has been a pioneer and a mentor throughout his career. His groundbreaking Black & White music video production company nurtured people of color behind the camera, and as a philanthropic activist he has served on the boards of the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center, Project Angel Food, the Advisory Board for the Carsey-Wolf Center at UC Santa Barbara, and as a Trustee for the Humanitas Prize. Among his upcoming projects is directing the story of civil rights leader Barbara Jordan, starring Viola Davis.

Paris Barclay will receive the Upton Sinclair Award at the Liberty Hill Dinner.
