The Angel City Jazz Festival continues on Friday October 6 at 7:30pm with a return to a favorite venue, REDCAT at the Disney Hall, for two exceptional presentations. Co-presented by Los Angeles’ legendary jazz promoter The Jazz Bakery, the evening will begin with a symposium on the 2012 Angel City Jazz Festival Theme, Artist & Legends and will be followed at 8:30pm by at set from current artists Anthony Wilson and Larry Goldings with legend Jim Keltner.
The panel will be moderated by longtime Los Angeles music scribe and Metaljazz.com blogger Greg Burk with panelists including singer and Jazz Bakery artistic director Ruth Price, musician and educator Bobby Bradford, and author, historian, and educator Steve Isoardi. They will discuss “Honoring and Breaking with Lineage” in jazz including the concept of mentorship among musicians and more.
Anthony Wilson, Larry Goldings, and Jim Keltner approach the familiar guitar-organ-drums trio format with a new spirit of play and possibility. Fitting naturally into the “Artists & Legends” theme of the 2012 Angel City Jazz Festival, legendary drummer Jim Keltner provided the soundtrack for both Wilson and Goldings as they grew up listening to Keltner’s unmistakable sound playing drums for artists like George Harrison, John Lennon, Steely Dan, Bob Dylan, and many others.
