The performance space at Le Lycee Francais de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz is pleased to bring Haitian music star BélO to Los Angeles as part of its public performing arts series. The show will take place at the Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles CA 90064 on Friday September 28 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $35 or $25 for students. Born in Haiti in 1979, BélO has been hailed as Haiti’s musical ambassador to the world. A socially conscious singer-songwriter with a sophisticated sound and winner of numerous awards, including the prestigious “Prix Radio France International Discoveries” honor, BelO’s sound is a sublime mixture of Jazz, Rock, Reggae and the Afro-Haitian traditional rhythms known as Ragganga. After his first two album releases Lakou Trankil (Soley Sounds, 2005) and Reference (NatiProd, 2008) sung in his rich and colorful native language, Haitian Creole, BélO has established himself as a Haitian and international artist signpost. After the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, BélO’s home was destroyed, and he was able to relocate temporarily in France with the help of Cultures France. During that time BélO’s primary focus was to create awareness for his country at various performances around the world. Upon returning to Haiti, BélO’s third album Haiti Debout, or Haiti Stand-up (2011) was released by Radio France/France Info and distributed, globally by Harmonia Mundi. Already on the first leg of the “Haiti Debout” tour, BélO has performed in Germany, Rome, Romania, France, and the United States.
